Weirton BOP explosion damages properties, displaces local residents

Despite repeated assurances from Frontier representatives, Weirton residents were forced to leave their homes following the implosion of the former Weirton Steel Basic Oxygen Plant. Many residents of the Weir Avenue area have been forced into hotels after much of the debris from Saturday’s explosion was scattered onto their streets and into their homes. The blast caused a massive dust and debris cloud which consumed Weir Avenue. At this time, many residences are uninhabitable and the contents of the debris remain unknown.
